Baton Rouge, LA (8/01/24) - On Wednesday, July 31, police responded to a collision involving two vehicles on LA 964, just north of Groom Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. The incident resulted in the death of Derek Guessfeld, a 41-year-old resident of Baker. Guessfeld was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima southbound on LA 964, while a 2023 Nissan Armada was heading northbound. The Altima crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the Armada for reasons still under investigation.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and sustained severe injuries needing to be transported to a local hospital. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
